About us and our story

We are a family owned and operated company.

Pursers Coaches was originally founded in 1967 by Mick Purser, after the acquisition of Runs and Vehicles, from Mr Peterson of Murgon. Mick Purser operated Purser’s Coaches until 1996, when the operation was sold to H.K., M.F. & A.K. Dascombe, who kept the Purser’s name.

Pursers started out with Harvy and Faye (Marianne) Dascombe who had one school run in Goomeri and in 1996 they purchased Pursers Coaches off Mick Purser with a total of eight school runs. A few years later, their son Andrew joined the family business. Andrew is a qualified diesel mechanic who had been working for Holden up until then. Felicity started helping when she began dating Andrew in 1997; spending many weekends helping Andrew clean buses and doing basic office jobs, before joining the company full time in 2004.

Today Pursers Coaches has a fleet of 50 buses and coaches, 32 school and charter services, two water cartage trucks and a staff of 55.

Over the years Pursers’ focus has been to provide reliable safe transport for the community of the South Burnett, including day trips and tours.

Over these years Pursers has also operated a very successful group tour business, hosting tours all over Australia and the world.

In 2016, as demand grew for more travel services, Pursers opened their first travel agency, Pursers Travel and Cruise a member of the Helloworld Travel group. This continued to grow and in 2017 Helloworld Travel Kingaroy and in 2019 Helloworld Travel Gympie followed. During the period from 2021 onwards we had the opportunity to continue to grow our retail travel agencies. Adding Helloworld Travel Coolangatta in 2021, Helloworld Travel Dalby and Toowoomba CBD in 2021, Helloworld Travel Banora Point in 2022, Helloworld Travel Sandgate and Wellcamp Airport at the start of 2022/23. More recently Helloworld Travel Helensvale Plaza, Helloworld Travel Bundaberg and Helloworld Travel Greenslopes.

During these years Pursers has also offered wine tours throughout the South Burnett, this part of the charter business has grown with the region. South Burnett Wine Tours offers fully customisable wine tours to the many wineries and other points of interest in our area.

Our People, Our Family

Our People, Our Family

Our team at Pursers are our family, in 2001 when Andrew and Felicity married all the drivers attended the wedding.

When the arrival of each of their three daughters and Felicity working, they came along to the office from birth with many a time our drivers helping push a pram so Felicity could take phone calls. We have grown up with the business and spend a lot of time with each other not to become family. Every Christmas anyone on their own is always welcome at our family home to spend the holiday.

Harvy having started the business and has the title the “hostess with the mostess” is still around to help wherever needed. Although he prefers to spend more time at home on his farm.

Faye (Marianne), Harvy’s wife and retired schoolteacher is a silent partner in the business, but always an advocate for the business and over the years a valued co-host with Harvy on tours.

Andrew, now the managing director of Pursers Coaches is the head mechanic and overseas operations, logistics and day to day running of Pursers Coaches.

Felicity, looks after all things finance, business and HR. As well as overseeing the running of the travel agencies.

Our Values

Our Values

Community, Service, Trust, Honesty

Community
We support our community wherever we can, our people volunteer within the community, we often donate the use of vehicles for community needs. We love where we live and know we are nothing without our community.
Service
To provide reliable and accessible services to all within our community and beyond. Opening opportunities to access school, work, and other vital services within our region and beyond. Living regionally should not mean a less quality of life and access to vital needs.
Trust
Is everything in a small community, we want people to know they can trust us to look after them, to care and to always do our best by them. This goes for all in our Purser family as well.
Honesty
The definition of honesty is the quality of being truthful. An example of honesty is telling the truth even after doing something wrong. Honesty is the foundation of trust. If we do something wrong, we own it and work towards a better standard.
